Amazing body and Indian head massage my friend and I had a lovely afternoon – just what we needed after all our walking around Porto 💕

I visited the sauna at Mirra Porto Spa last week as a walk-in without a reservation and was warmly welcomed by the hostess Giovanna.
The Oriental Relaxation, which at Mirra we also call the journey to the Orient, is La Sultane de Saba’s hammam ritual in the scent of amber, musk and sandalwood: a hammam session, a scrub with eucalyptus black soap, a wrap of shea butter and rassoul, and a full-body massage with the oil of the same line. In the 120-minute version, an oriental facial sits between the wrap and the massage. Alone or for two, in Porto city centre, near Trindade metro station.
Why have The Oriental Relaxation at Mirra
The brand. La Sultane de Saba is a French house of oriental rituals, with products made for the hammam: black soap, rassoul, shea, scented oils. We do not use them as retail; we use them as the ritual asks, from the steam to the last oil. The Voyage en Orient line is this one.
The sequence. The hammam opens the skin; the black soap and the mitt lift its dead layer; the wrap feeds it while the body rests in the warmth; the massage closes, with the skin ready to take the oil. Two hours in which each step exists for the sake of the next.
The place and the people. The Baixa, Porto’s downtown, near Trindade metro station. Opening hours: Every day, 9am–10pm. The visit includes tea after your treatment and slippers. How the journey to the Orient is done
Hammam and black soap
You go into the hammam in swimwear and stay in the steam until the skin softens. The therapist applies the eucalyptus black soap, lets it work for a few minutes, then passes the kese mitt over the whole body, from the legs upwards: the dead skin comes away in little rolls. A warm shower.
Wrap
Lying on the table, the body is covered in a paste of shea butter and rassoul, the Moroccan clay, and wrapped in a warm sheet. You stay like that for fifteen to twenty minutes, with a light head massage in the meantime. Shower. In the 120-minute version, this is where the oriental facial comes in: cleanse, mask and hydration of the face, with the line’s products.
Massage
A full-body relaxation massage with the amber, musk and sandalwood oil, warm, at a light to medium pressure agreed with you. It is the longest step and the last. The final minutes in silence, and the scent stays with you for the rest of the day.
Benefits
On hammam rituals there is no research that separates the effect of each part, and we invent none. On massage in general, a meta-analysis found that a single session reduced the anxiety felt in the moment.1 The rest is what you feel on the way out, and it is a lot: skin like new, a body heavy with calm, the scent in your hair, and two hours in which the phone stayed in the locker.
Afterwards
Drink water, plenty. Do not shower until the next day, if you can: the oil and the shea keep working. No direct sun and no waxing for forty-eight hours. Wear loose clothes.

Can we do the journey as a couple?
Yes. The hammam is shared and the massage is done side by side, in the couples room, with two therapists at the same time. It is the ritual most often given for two.
What do I bring, and what is included?
Bring swimwear and loose clothes for afterwards. The rest is included: robe, slippers, towels, tea at the end. Do not shower until the next day, if you can: the oil keeps working.
What does it smell like?
Amber, musk and sandalwood: warm, deep, oriental. It is La Sultane de Saba's Voyage en Orient line. If you prefer fresh or floral scents, see the Voyage to the Islands or the Delight of La Sultane.
Can I do the journey while pregnant?
The hammam and the warm wrap are left out in pregnancy. Talk to us: we adapt the ritual or help you choose another, such as the pregnancy massage.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Cancellation policy: full refund of the deposit if you cancel at least 24 hours in advance. After that, the deposit is not refunded.
When should I arrive, and what is included?
Arrive 10 minutes early. Includes tea after your treatment and slippers.
How can I pay?
Card, MB Way and Multibanco. Bookings between 8pm and 11pm ask for a 30% deposit.
